Altering the weight of your vehicle

Please note that altering the weight limit of your vehicle, especially increasing weight, can have negative effects, such as an increase fuel consumption, reduced cruising speed, tyre wear, as well as adding additional strain to many components of your vehicle & drivetrain, and may effect the coverage of the manufacturer's warranty (if applicable). It is the vehicle owner’s responsibility to check with the OEM & supplying manufacturer to ensure that their vehicle will continue to be in compliance, and to choose to proceed or not accordingly.

Advice given

Advice is given in Dee Thorne’s professional capacity as a qualified Vehicle Engineer, on behalf of VAN WEIGHT ENGINEERING LLP. Advice is based on the information given by the vehicle owner/enquirer, and to the best of the Engineer’s knowledge the vehicle will continue to comply with all Road Vehicle Regulations & legal requirements for normal road use. Advice may changes based upon manufacturers' latest approvals. All calculations and assessments will be retained for no less than 12 months and fall under GDPR requirements.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

VWE paid for services are covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII). This PII gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which may vary from Country to Country. There are no warranties expressed or implied which extend beyond this PII described herein. Coverage does not include driver opinions about such areas as ride comfort, or changes to fuel consumption or cruising speed; does not include increased wear and tear to primary, secondary, or ancillary components such as but not limited to wheel bearings or braking components, or chassis, or decreased service intervals due to additional strain on the engine & drivetrain; does not include additional costs related to but not limited to repair costs, damage to related components, costs incurred due to down time of vehicle, normal wear and tear, lost profits and incidental or consequential damages. All VWE advice & material is bespoke to the vehicle enquired upon, and cannot be applied to any other vehicle.

Affiliations

VWE does not recommend, endorse or have paid affiliation with any particular wheel, tyre, suspension, or component manufacturer or supplier. The PII does not include products or modifications carried out by the owner, or their nominated parties, to achieve the weight change; does not include increased wear and tear to primary, secondary, or ancillary components such as but not limited to wheel bearings or braking components, or chassis, or decreased service intervals due to additional strain on the engine & drivetrain; does not include additional costs related to but not limited to repair costs, damage to related components, costs incurred due to down time of vehicle, normal wear and tear, lost profits and incidental or consequential damages.

VWE strongly recommends installation of any products or modifications be done by a suitably qualified mechanic, & upon completion the vehicle should be inspected by a professional mechanic including such areas as the steering system, brake system, speedometer recalibration, and clearance, for tyre and suspension travel and road worthiness of all installed products.

Alteration of a vehicle's weight will affect both the centre of gravity and the braking effectiveness of the vehicle. This will have been calculated to remain within the dynamic limits of the base vehicle, but VWE urges that extreme caution be used when encountering driving conditions which may cause vehicle imbalance, and may mean that more distance will be required to stop the vehicle. It is the owner’s responsibility to caution and warn any potential driver of the vehicle about these driving and handling conditions.
